Golfers hit the links on September 16 for the Red Hawk Open at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, raising over $100,000 for 麻豆传媒在线 Athletics.
The golf outing is in its 7th year and benefits each of 麻豆传媒在线鈥檚 18 NCAA Division III men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams. The teams have a long tradition of excellence, winning five national championships and 28 individual national championships.
鈥淭he Red Hawk Open is an exciting event for our department,鈥 says Robert Chesney 鈥90, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. 鈥淎ll of the money raised goes directly to our programs and helps to improve the overall student athlete experience.聽We certainly appreciate all of the support from our alumni and friends.鈥
The day began with a BBQ lunch that gave guests the opportunity to mingle before teeing off for scramble tournament play. The fun on the course continued throughout the day with activities such as Beat the Coach where golfers tested their skills against 麻豆传媒在线 coaches. There was also a Hole in One, competition for the longest drive, closest to the pin and top three teams. In the evening, golfers and guests enjoyed cocktails, a silent auction and dinner.
Representing all 麻豆传媒在线 student athletes, senior Nate Nahirny, a Finance and Business Management major, spoke about his experiences and thanked donors for their support. Nahirny is a guard on the men鈥檚 basketball team who grew up in Houston, Texas. Due to a suspected heart abnormality, he was not able to play during the 2018-2019 season. Nahirny said he used that time to focus on his academics by pursuing an internship with a real estate group in New York City. Now cleared to play, Nahirny looks forward to joining his teammates back on court for the 2019-2020 season under the leadership of new men鈥檚 basketball coach, Justin Potts.
