{"id":124277,"date":"2022-04-25T12:31:24","date_gmt":"2022-04-25T16:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/ceel\/?p=124277"},"modified":"2022-04-25T12:31:24","modified_gmt":"2022-04-25T16:31:24","slug":"human-rights-university-for-a-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/ceel\/2022\/04\/25\/human-rights-university-for-a-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Human Rights University for a Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, 麻豆传媒在线 students who took part in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/ceel\/introducing-cehs\/holocaust-project-human-rights-education-internship\/\">Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project<\/a> internship taught at Human Rights University for a Day at 麻豆传媒在线 High School, in 麻豆传媒在线, New Jersey. This event was a fantastic example of community engagement by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cehs\">CEHS<\/a> students.<\/p>\n<p>The interns worked alongside human rights education professionals throughout the Spring 2022 semester, conducted a research project on a human rights topic of their choice, and developed and taught a lesson plan on that topic. This competitive internship also included participation in the three-credit course, <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/search\/?search=edfd+445\">EDFD 445 Human Rights Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The high school students each attended three presentations as part of the Center for Social Justice at MHS. These students were so smart, engaged, and eager to participate. Additionally, their teachers and administrators were very gracious in hosting the group.<\/p>\n<p>The program included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Debates over Teaching Critical Race Theory<\/li>\n<li>Trans Youth ActivismHealth Care Access<\/li>\n<li>School Segregation<\/li>\n<li>The Syrian Refugee Crisis<\/li>\n<li>Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation<\/li>\n<li>Maternal Health Care<\/li>\n<li>Latinx Activism<\/li>\n<li>Educational Equality<\/li>\n<li>The Family Separation Crisis at the US Border<\/li>\n<li>Health Care for Trans Youth<\/li>\n<li>Internet Privacy<\/li>\n<li>Free Speech on the Internet<\/li>\n<li>The Wage Gap<\/li>\n<li>Body Image and Health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/~burkholderz\">Dr. Zo\u00eb Burkholder<\/a> is the director of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project and a professor of Educational Foundations. She is a historian of education whose expertise includes antiracist education, school desegregation, and civil rights history.
