Graduate Spotlight: Guided by a passion for mental health equity and strengthened by hands-on experience at 麻豆传媒在线, Romal Bhullar is ready to make a lasting impact as a future psychologist.

Growing up in a small town in India, Romal Bhullar saw firsthand what happens when communities lack access to mental health care. That experience lit a spark鈥攁nd it鈥檚 never gone out.
鈥淎fter my undergraduate studies, I interned at psychiatric clinics,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 when my passion for providing competent care really took shape.鈥 It鈥檚 what brought her to 麻豆传媒在线 to pursue her Master鈥檚 in Clinical Psychology.
One course in particular鈥擟ognitive Assessment鈥攕tood out. 鈥淚t was the first time theory met practice in a real way,鈥 she explains. 鈥淚t showed me the responsibility that comes with being a clinician.鈥 Encouraged by professors like ,, and others, Romal says she found not just academic support, but a sense of belonging. 鈥淭hey helped me adjust to the American academic system, and they believed in me.鈥
That community spirit shaped her experience. At the Center for Clinical Services, she worked in an administrative role supporting counseling clients. She also completed a clinical internship, conducted psychoeducational evaluations, and advocated for student accommodations. Along the way, she assisted with faculty research and submitted two manuscripts for publication.
Now, Romal鈥檚 journey continues: she鈥檚 been accepted into the PsyD program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and will also begin working in Alzheimer鈥檚 research at Mount Sinai. Her goal? To become a licensed psychologist.
鈥溌槎勾皆谙 taught me that growth doesn鈥檛 happen in isolation,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t taught me to value different perspectives and to ask better questions.鈥
Her advice to new students is simple but powerful: 鈥淭rust the process鈥攁nd don鈥檛 be afraid to ask for help.鈥
