Service work is guided by alignment with the University\u2019s mission, as well as the unique foci and needs of the units in which teaching faculty work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the complement of activities that make up individual teaching faculty\u2019s service activities will vary, all teaching faculty should be robust and impactful in their contributions first to their department\/school, then college and university, with contributions at the professional or community level growing with rank and time in position. Faculty should seek varied roles from participant to leader and varied levels of commitment, responsibility, and impact. Service will vary by individual, based on the needs of the unit. The following activities are suggestive, not exhaustive:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student recruitment and retention activities: Participate in recruitment, retention, and success.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizing or Leading Co-Curricular and Extracurricular activities: Take a leadership or participatory role in organizing or advising student activities, such as academic or other clubs, honor societies, or extracurricular programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community-Engaged Teaching Projects: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develop and lead community-based learning experiences, such as service-learning courses or partnerships with local organizations, to provide students with opportunities to apply classroom learning in real-world settings while supporting local communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty Mentoring and Peer Support: Mentor and provide teaching observations for junior faculty, adjunct faculty, or peers, particularly in teaching strategies, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for faculty development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Curriculum Development: Participate in developing new courses or curricula or revising existing ones within the department or across the university.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teaching and learning activities: Lead or participate in evidence-based teaching practices in alignment with the Teaching Principles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program Assessment and Accreditation: Contribute to departmental or college-level efforts to assess academic programs, prepare accreditation reports, or evaluate student learning outcomes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participation or leadership in professional organizations related to teaching and pedagogy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participation, contribution, or service (as leader, participant, or partner) to the community outside of the university, particularly as these contributions relate to teaching, one\u2019s discipline, and the university\u2019s goals.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Last Modified: Monday, November 10, 2025 3:41 pm<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Service is an essential role of all university faculty with teaching faculty contributing especially to service related to their departments\/schools and teaching and student success.
