Surtitling for Opera at the Sferisterio Arena<\/h2>\n

As part of a broader initiative about translation and pre-professional opportunities for students, the\u00a0Inserra Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Italian Program<\/a>\u00a0at 麻豆传媒在线 are pleased to offer a new seven-week summer internship (June 19-Aug. 7, 2017) at the prestigious\u00a0Sferisterio Arena\u00a0in Macerata in connection with the\u00a0summer opera season.<\/p>\n

The selected intern will work on the surtitling of three operas (Madama Butterfly<\/em>,\u00a0Turandot<\/em>,\u00a0Aida<\/em>) within a translation and accessibility project overseen by a team of experts at the Macerata Opera Festival and the University of Macerata. The intern is expected to work closely with this team and communicate effectively in Italian at the advanced level, both orally and in writing. Responsibilities will include: collaboration on the development of the surtitles (translation, editing, timing) and their deployment during live performances, as well as involvement in organizational aspects of the productions.<\/p>\n

This is a paid internship ($5,000)\u00a0made possible by the Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. Scholarship Award<\/strong>.
\nLodging in Macerata will be covered for the whole stay. The student is responsible for the airfare.
\nThe intern will be expected to work 25 hours\/week (5 per day) for a total of 200 hours over 8 weeks (note that distribution of hours during the week may vary depending on the calendar of rehearsals and shows).<\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/strong>: Advanced students enrolled in the Italian Program. Preference will be given to a current major in Italian or a major who graduated in 2016-17.<\/p>\n
