Presented by Dr. Marsha Grant-Ford in recognition of Lois Wagner’s 36 years of service to the profession and her mentorship to Dr. Grant-Ford. The award is presented to the athletic training student with the highest clinical anatomy grade.<\/p>\n
This award is initiated by the head athletic trainer, Mr. John Davis from the 麻豆传媒在线 Athletic Department. The award is sponsored by Dr. Vincent McInerny, team orthopedist, and Dr. Joan Schleede-Horn of the Department of HPPERLS. The award is given in honor of the memories of Professor Al Coder and Professor George Horn. The award is presented to the student athletic trainer who exhibits excellence in the classroom and the training room.<\/p>\n
This award is presented to a student in Athletic Training who has shown superior academic achievement and has contributed volunteer services to the University and\/or community in the Athletic Training area.<\/p>\n
Vincent Farrell of the class of 1932 was known nationally and internationally as an Olympic basketball official, a track official, and a navy man of the finest quality. As well as honoring Vincent, this scholarship also honors his wife Dorothy and his\u00a0mother Teresa. The recipient of the Vincent, Dorothy and Teresa Farrell Scholarship demonstrates high academic achievement and active participation in department activities.<\/p>\n
Is dedicated to him for his life-long devotion to serving youth, and in recognition of his 60 years of service to the Red Cross. Mr. Nerenberg died in November of 1992, leaving a heritage of volunteer contributions that will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n

Elvera Perkins, a graduate of the class of ’26, gives this award because of her love and respect for Physical Education and her desire to see high standards continue. The Elvera De Muth Perkins Scholarship is for a student majoring in Physical Education who gives evidence of promise for making positive contributions to the field of Physical Education.<\/p>\n
The Margaret C. Brown Scholarship is donated by Robert Weston ’47, to recognize the Physical Education sophomore who has the highest cumulative average and reflects some of Dr. Brown’s professional ideals through leadership, service or participation in professional Physical Education activities on or off campus (i.e., conference, workshop, convention).<\/p>\n
Mr. Gerald Garafola ’24 was a colonel of the U.S. Air Force and was director of Physical Education for the city of Newark for many years until his retirement. At 86 years old, he is still concerned that good teachers be graduated from the Panzer School at 麻豆传媒在线 College. The Gerald A. Garafola Scholarship for distinguished contributions through participation and leadership in department activities and a grade point average of 2.8 or more.<\/p>\n
Mr. Scott Harris was president of the Panzer College Board of Trustees, and with his skill managed a wonderful merger with 麻豆传媒在线 College. This scholarship in his and his wife’s name was started some years ago and is maintained by their children. The 2005 Scott and Dorothea Harris Scholarship for scholastic achievement of at least 3.0, and a good citizen of the college and the community, who gives promise of being a successful teacher of Physical Education.<\/p>\n
This Scholarship was established by friends of Dr. Margaret C. Brown upon her death. In honor of Dr. Brown, this scholarship is awarded to a sophomore who is active in providing service to the community.<\/p>\n
Nicholas C. Ciccone, ’21, was a Physical Education teacher of long standing in the city of Newark. The Ciccone Scholarship is for a Physical Education major demonstrating skill in motivating the older adults to keep fit through movement activities.<\/p>\n
Mr. Albert J. Gorton was Professor, Director of Athletics and coach of many sports at Panzer College. He was respected by the athletes, his professional associates, and members of the athletic community. This scholarship was set up in his memory. The A. J. Gorton Scholarship is for maintaining and demonstrating a high level of skill in Physical Education activities.<\/p>\n
Dean Martino was a member of the class of 1978. The class had a genuine fondness for each other and have remained good friends. When, not long after graduation, Dean died of cancer, his classmates set up this scholarship in his name. The Dean Martino Memorial Scholarship recognizes a junior Physical Education major demonstrating a specific quality of Dean: a willingness to give of himself and his time to others.<\/p>\n
Miss Thelma Thompson, ’58, sponsors the Measurement and Evaluation in Physical Education Scholarship that is presented to the junior Physical Education major with the highest grade and achievement in the measurements and evaluation course.<\/p>\n
Dr. Krakower was formerly Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physical and Health Education of the City College of New York and currently resides in Florida. He sends his best wishes and is sorry he can’t travel to be with us for this presentation. Many of us were privileged to know Dr. Brown as an outstanding educator known across the country and in other nations as a progressive and creative leader in Physical Education. Many of you know her only as a portrait and as a special room for your study and quiet social use. It is fitting that this Senior Medal in her name be awarded for professional excellence.<\/p>\n

This award is presented to a senior Physical Education and Health major who has shown excellence in professional courses and in student teaching.<\/p>\n
Is sponsored by Dr. Hazel Wacker, Professor Emeritus in honor of the President of Panzer College of Physical Education and Hygiene from 1920 to 1931. Panzer College was founded in 1917 by Randall D. Warden and Matthias Machery, Directors of Physical Education in the city of Newark. Mr. Warden continued to direct Panzer until 1920 when Mr. Panzer became President. This award is presented to honor creative teaching.<\/p>\n
Was established by Col. Gerald A. Garafola in honor of the co-founder of the Newark Normal School of Physical Education and Hygiene. This award is presented to recognize the senior with the highest scholastic achievement.<\/p>\n
Is presented to a senior student in teacher education who has demonstrated high academic achievement, reflected in a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and whose behavior reflects high ethical standards and exemplary professionalism in Physical Education. This Award is co-sponsored by Dr. Nancy Giardina and the Richard W. Tews 麻豆传媒在线 Foundation Scholarship Fund.<\/p>\n
Dr. Giardina and her family members are grateful to her parents for instilling in each of them the value of education in fostering personal growth. Mr. Giardina served in the U. S. Army Air Corp and Air Force for 30 years and was a POW for three years, three months during WW2 in the Asiatic Pacific. Mrs. Giardina worked for 20 years in Federal Civil Service as an Executive Secretary and Supervisor in the Dept. of Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.<\/p>\n
Reflects the ideas of Louis and Florence Peragallo by giving evidence of a love and passion to teach physical education in the schools; involvement in the state’s professional organization or in the Department of Exercise Science and Physical Education. This award is presented to students in good academic standing, who are positive contributors and role models in their local communities; and are recognized as leaders by their peers and teachers.<\/p>\n
Sue Fuller, ’60, was known throughout the state as a fine woman and an excellent player in all phases of field hockey. At the time of her tragic death, this scholarship was set up by her friends, associates and family. The Sue Fuller Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student for their outstanding contributions through service to athletics (i.e., manager, publicity, statistician, etc.).<\/p>\n
Is sponsored by Dr. Domenica Desiderioscioli, who was advisor and mentor to the Panzer Student Association from 1976 to 1985. This award is presented to a student, in good academic standing, who has given outstanding leadership and service to the department and the Panzer Student Association.<\/p>\n
Are presented to students who demonstrate exceptional service and qualities of leadership, understanding and creativity while fulfilling practicum assignments in the adapted area.<\/p>\n

Cathy Vayianos, ’61, was a basketball player of exceptional ability. She has been a successful coach and wants to help others who truly love sports. The Cathy Vayianos Coach’s Award is for a student who demonstrates leadership, team spirit, and willingness to learn.<\/p>\n
Is given to a student athlete in good academic standing with an interest in track and field, who demonstrates leadership, team spirit and a desire to make a positive contribution to society; qualities which exemplify “Dr. Horn’s ideals”.<\/p>\n
Harry Nowick, ’49, was known and loved all over the state of NJ. His officiating of softball, basketball and soccer was accurate and honest. The Harry Nowick Scholarship is presented to a student majoring in Physical Education who demonstrates expertise and interest in soccer.<\/p>\n
Is sponsored by the Panzer Alumni, and was initiated to honor Dr. Wacker. This award is presented to a student majoring in Physical Education, Recreation or Health who gives documented volunteer service to an off-campus community group, organization or institution.<\/p>\n
Is presented to a student for qualities of positive leadership and high cumulative average.<\/p>\n
Joseph P. Ceres was a teacher of Physical Education in Newark, particularly interested in gymnastics. The 2005 Joseph P. Ceres Scholarship for a sophomore or junior Physical Education major student who has shown exceptional ability and leadership in gymnastics.<\/p>\n
The late Paul Bogatko, ’22, was a teacher of Physical Education and Director of Athletics at East Side High School in Newark for over 40 years. The Paul Bogatko Scholarship is for a student who has graduated from a Newark Public High School and is a student in good standing.<\/p>\n
Was established in 1996, and is designated for a full-time undergraduate student with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher who exhibits good sportsmanship and the understanding of the importance of teamwork.<\/p>\n
This scholarship is presented to a Physical Education major who has been accepted for graduate studies. The scholarship is presented by the Panzer Trust Committee.<\/p>\n
Elysia Philipp, ’32, was a teacher of Physical Education at Rahway H.S. and then a guidance counselor. She touched the lives of many young people and continues to do so through this fine scholarship. The Elysia Philipp Scholarship is given to a very capable student in the Department of Physical Education as determined by a selection committee.<\/p>\n
The Roger M. Palmisano Lacrosse Award is presented by Lt. Col. Roger M. Palmisano (’79) to a student in good academic standing (cumulative average at least 2.5) who demonstrates exceptional skill and interest in lacrosse.<\/p>\n
Is presented by the Panzer Student Association to a student for contributions to physical education through service in the Panzer Student Association, and who has a cumulative average of 2.75 or more.<\/p>\n
This award is presented to a student in Physical Education who has shown superior academic achievement and has contributed volunteer services to the University and\/or community.<\/p>\n
This award is presented to a student in Adult Fitness who has shown superior academic achievement and has contributed volunteer services to the University and\/or community in the Exercise Science area.<\/p>\n
Ashley Hammond was the recipient of the 1994 Dr. Richard W. Tews Memorial Award. Mr. Hammond is a Physical Education teacher at 麻豆传媒在线 Kimberly Academy and offers this scholarship to a Physical Education major who demonstrates exceptional skill and interest in soccer. Mr. Hammond established this award in 1995.<\/p>\n
