University Libraries recognizes the importance of the holistic well-being of Â鶹´«Ã½ÔÚÏß students, faculty, and staff. As such, we collaborated with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) which came up with the great idea of installing two state-of-the-art Metro Energy Nap Pods in the library.
The acquisition of our Nap Pods were made possible by a grant of $850,832 provided by the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) to improve students’ lives, including their mental health well-being. The main purpose of the grant was to help disadvantaged students with mental health needs; populations which were most adversely affected by the pandemic.
The grant also helped to provide our University with several other equipment and services including:
- 3 additional nap pods (2 in the student center and 1 in the recreation center)
- 3 massage chairs (2 in the student center and 1 in the recreation center)
- Increased access to mental health resources through partnerships with treatment centers including Blue Crest, GenPsych and Renfrew center.
- Professional development for Â鶹´«Ã½ÔÚÏß Faculty and Staff through , an organization dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color.
- Funding to train, feed, heal and groom Pebbles, Â鶹´«Ã½ÔÚÏß’s pupscot.
The new nap pods, located on the first floor in the Commuter Study Space, just outside of the Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE), are designed to provide library users with a dedicated space to rejuvenate both physically and mentally.
Some of the nap pod’s exciting features include:
- A privacy visor
