  {"id":72,"date":"2018-02-08T20:45:29","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T20:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/?page_id=72"},"modified":"2025-11-21T16:21:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T21:21:58","slug":"german","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/german\/","title":{"rendered":"German Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Why German?<\/h2>\n<p>The German program has recently been nationally recognized as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/newscenter\/2020\/11\/24\/german-program-nationally-recognized-as-center-of-excellence\/\">Center of Excellence<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The German program emphasizes inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement, and has since Fall 2021 housed a &#8220;SPARK for German Lab&#8221; supported by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and the Goethe-Institut.<\/p>\n<p>The German-speaking world has been home to Mozart and Bach, Nietzsche and Heidegger, Klimt and Klee, Einstein and Bohr. Germany today is the strongest economy in Europe, has one of the fastest growing independent art scenes (in Berlin), and is a worldwide research leader in fields from renewable energy to nanotechnology.<\/p>\n<p>German is a language that is excellent preparation for traveling in Europe, as almost 40% of European citizens say they can converse in German. Last but not least, German is the most commonly used language on the internet after English. If you&#8217;d like to learn more about German at 麻豆传媒在线, please contact <a href=\"mailto:heroldt@mail.montclair.edu\">Thomas Herold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The program offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/academics\/programs\/ba-german\/\">German major<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/academics\/programs\/ba-german\/\">German minor<\/a>. Course offerings include language courses on all levels, as well as German film, culture, and literature courses both in German and English. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/german\/german-club\/\">German Club<\/a> provides a variety of opportunities for students to participate in cultural events and other outings. Through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/german\/montclair-graz-exchange-program\/?wp_logged_in=true\">麻豆传媒在线-Graz exchange<\/a>, students have the opportunity to study in Austria.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Pascale Lafountain joins <a href=\"https:\/\/wmscradio.com\/\">WMSC<\/a> host Kaya Maciak for an episode of <em>The Sweet Escape<\/em> to discuss Germany.
