Faculty and staff are often the first to notice when a student is struggling whether that be emotionally, academically, or behaviorally. Your care, attention, and timely action can make all the difference.<\/p>\n
Include the following sample syllabus statement to normalize help-seeking:<\/p>\n
麻豆传媒在线 cares about your well-being. If you are experiencing personal, emotional, or academic challenges, resources are available. Please consider reaching out to the CARE Team or Counseling and Psychological Services for support.<\/em><\/p>\n Small, compassionate openings can make a big difference.<\/p>\n When a student opens up, focus on listening and validating their feelings.<\/p>\n \u2705 \u201cThat sounds really tough, and I appreciate you sharing it with me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2705 \u201cYour feelings are valid\u2014college can be a big adjustment.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2705 \u201cYou don\u2019t have to go through this alone. I\u2019m here for you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2705 \u201cIt\u2019s okay to ask for help\u2014would you like to connect with campus resources together?\u201d<\/p>\n \u2705 \u201cI care about you, and your well-being matters more than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n Avoid language that minimizes or dismisses their feelings.<\/p>\n \u274c \u201cJust toughen up\u2014everyone goes through this.\u201d<\/p>\n \u274c \u201cIt\u2019s not that big of a deal; you\u2019ll get over it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u274c \u201cYou have nothing to be stressed about.\u201d<\/p>\n \u274c \u201cOther students have it worse, so you should be grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n \u274c \u201cYou\u2019re just being dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n If you\u2019re worried about a student, it\u2019s better to ask and act than to wait. Trust your instincts\u2014if something feels wrong, take it seriously.<\/p>\n Ask directly but gently:<\/p>\n Stay with them until they are connected to help.<\/strong><\/p>\n Contact CAPS or call the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (U.S.).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div> When and how to submit a CARE Referral Form<\/a><\/p>\n If you notice a student struggling\u2014academically, emotionally, socially, or personally\u2014you don\u2019t need to handle it alone. Submitting a CARE Referral Form allows our team to reach out, provide support, and connect the student to the right resources.
