The Educational Leadership MA program at 麻豆传媒在线 offers different tracking options which gave me some flexibility in how I wanted to complete the program. 麻豆传媒在线 has a great reputation and it was a program that I wanted to be a part of.

If you chose an online program, why did you do so?

The online program is extremely accommodating for teachers who are working full time. It allows more flexibility in getting assignments done. As someone who does not live near 麻豆传媒在线, it was awesome to still have the option to further my education in their program.

What were/are your career objectives?
I am currently a sixth-grade math teacher and have been loving the experience. After earning my first masters, I knew I wanted to potentially become an administrator one day. Regardless of where I end up, the experience enhances my teaching and depth of knowledge in the field of education.

How has/does the program at 麻豆传媒在线 support your career objectives?
The MA program at 麻豆传媒在线 will give me the tools, skills, knowledge and requirements to become an administrator. The program broadens my options for the future.

How have you/are you using what you have learned?
The program has given me tools to enhance my teaching. Additionally, it has provided me with a deeper understanding of some of the 鈥渂ehind the scenes鈥 workings as an administrator. I have more an appreciation and understanding of all the responsibilities of a principal or supervisor. I am looking forward to continue to learn more as I progress through the program.

Did/does the program meet your expectations? Please explain why or why not.
The program has surpassed my expectations. The content is worthwhile and applicable, the work load is manageable, the professors are excellent and provide individualized feedback and the knowledge I have gained has improved my skillset as a teacher and later on as an administrator.

What kind of support did you receive from faculty and staff?聽
As with any online program, there is some apprehension that there may not be as much support from faculty and staff. I can honestly say I have had the best support system from my advisor and my professors. The feedback is immediate and personal. Student Spotlight: Amanda Mock /online/2017/05/09/18074_student-spotlight-amanda-mock/ Tue, 09 May 2017 14:59:12 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/news/article.php?ArticleID=18074 What led you to study in the Educational Leadership MA Program at 麻豆传媒在线?
There are three things that led me to the MA Program at 麻豆传媒在线. One was the structure of the program with eight week courses and two per semester. This sounded manageable to me with my current responsibilities. Secondly, and probably most importantly, I enjoy the flexibility of an all-online program. I took two online courses as part of my first master鈥檚 degree and it gave me a solid understanding of how online courses flow. Lastly, it was an affordable choice as compared to other options that offer all-online programs.

If you chose an online program, why did you do so?
I chose the all-online program because I do not work or live in a location convenient to any traditional campuses. In addition, I have a high level of personal motivation and strong organization. I knew that I would be able to keep track of assignments and due dates, as well as keep my goals in mind throughout times of heavy workload. However, the self-paced nature of the courses are what held the greatest appeal to me.

What were/are your career objectives?

I am currently happy in my teaching position. Nonetheless, I can see a time in my future when I want to move on to new challenges as an administrator. I am always up for new challenges that allow me to grow. Regardless of what the future holds, I currently desire to have a better understanding of the inner-workings of my school, as I believe such an understanding will make me a better teacher, as well as a person who is more understanding of administrative undertakings in my district.

How has/does the program at 麻豆传媒在线 support your career objectives?
The program at 麻豆传媒在线 is absolutely helping me to reach my goals. I am going to leave the program with a second master鈥檚 degree, which will allow me to move across my pay scale at work while also fulfilling my desire to hold administrative certifications. The program is also allowing me to have a broader view of what goes on in my school. When a decision is made by administration, I find myself thinking about it in the context of my learnings and weighing the merits of the decision.

How have you/are you using what you have learned?
Thus far, I have specifically used what I have learned in two leadership courses in my classroom. Many of the same basic principles apply to leading children as they do to leading adults. I am fortunate to teach AP courses, so I am able to build a consensus around a vision of high achievement on AP exams and motivate the whole group to work towards the vision. Learning how to lead a group in such a way has been helpful and I do think that my students are more motivated.

Did/does the program meet your expectations?
Both professors I have had so far have been quick to respond to my emails. My most recent professor was extremely helpful; she provided extensive feedback on assignments and even spoke to me once by phone to ensure I was on the right track. I think that quick and clear communication is essential to an online program and I am glad to say that I have received it.

Alumni Spotlight: Janine Miscia Barboza /online/2017/05/02/18041_alumni-spotlight-janine-miscia-barboza/ Tue, 02 May 2017 15:00:25 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/news/article.php?ArticleID=18041 What led you to study in the Educational Leadership MA Program at 麻豆传媒在线?
For years, I was confident that I would further my studies strictly in math following an MS in Math Ed. Over time, however, I looked to a few of my administrators that had been truly inspiring and seemed to 鈥渂reak the mold.鈥澛 I decided that I not only was in love with the public school environment, but I also wanted to 鈥渂reak the mold鈥 as an instructional leader and 鈥渢each the teachers.鈥澛 I had a very positive experience at 麻豆传媒在线 pursuing my first master鈥檚 program and knew that I wanted to continue as a student at the University.

What were/are your career objectives?
After 11 years of teaching math, I made the transition to K-12 Math/Science Supervisor and Co-Director of Curriculum for Cedar Grove Schools in July 2013. I did this almost unexpectedly as I was truly passionate about being in the classroom鈥nd still am…but felt compelled to take the opportunity to supervise and make a larger-scale impact on our education system.聽 I am happy in my position now and learning a great deal, although I would eventually like to be a high school principal.

How has/does the program at 麻豆传媒在线 support your career objectives?
I feel that the courses I鈥檝e taken have been directly applicable to what I am doing as a supervisor and even impacted my teaching in the classroom.

How have you/are you using what you have learned?
From Education Law and policies of Special Education to Action Research and Community Relations, I was given the opportunity to experience the varying aspects of public education that is not always seen as a classroom teacher.聽 As a supervisor, I have an even greater understanding of what my professors were relaying to me as I am in an administrative role.

What are you doing now (i.e., have you made a career change or advanced in your career)?

I completed the MS in Math in May 2009 and started with Ed Leadership in fall 2009.聽 I had completed the necessary courses to become certified as a supervisor of mathematics and a window opened in my own district in June 2013, as I mentioned earlier. I am in my 4th year as the K-12 Supervisor, therefore, I was already in this position when I completed the program in May 2015.

Did the program meet your expectations?
I believe that all of my courses provided ample assignments and opportunities to connect with others, discuss personal thoughts and analyze current issues in education.

What kind of support did you receive from faculty and staff?聽
I developed positive relationships with all of my professors.

Thinking about your experiences with the program at 麻豆传媒在线, what did you like most?
I enjoyed networking with other graduate students and I appreciated the variety of courses I was required to take.聽 From curriculum to leadership, I felt that I was able to gather information about aspects of education that one does not experience in the classroom.

Alumni Spotlight: Melinda Iannarone /online/2016/04/12/16264_alumni-spotlight-melinda-iannarone/ Tue, 12 Apr 2016 16:14:36 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/news/article.php?ArticleID=16264

Why did you choose 麻豆传媒在线?

I was born and raised by the beach. I wanted to use college as a way to explore a new lifestyle and way of living. Being so close to the city, I knew 麻豆传媒在线 would give me the opportunity to do that. Also, I loved campus and its diversity. I had always wanted to work with children and 麻豆传媒在线 had a number of ways where I could make my dreams become a reality.

Why did you choose the MA program in Child Advocacy and Policy?

I was completing my Bachelor鈥檚 degree as a double major in Jurisprudence and Political Science, and one of my elective choices was CHAD 300, Forensic Interviewing of Children. After the first class, I was hooked! I walked right over to the Child Advocacy Center and added the Undergraduate Certificate in Child Advocacy and Policy. From that moment on, all of my work became interdisciplinary to include, jurisprudence, political science and child advocacy. After completing my undergrad and being so in love with the Child Advocacy courses, I chose to pursue my master鈥檚 in Child Advocacy and Policy, and became a graduate assistant for the department. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made

What are you doing now, and how has your study of Child Advocacy helped you in your “life after 麻豆传媒在线?”

I currently work in the development department at Children鈥檚 Aid and Family Services as the Volunteer and Resource Specialist. Our mission at Children鈥檚 Aid and Family Services is to preserve, protect, and when needed, provide for vulnerable children and families. The MA in Child Advocacy prepared me to contribute and be an important part of the field. When you work in the non-profit world, you have to be a critical and creative thinker, an eloquent and persuasive writer, know how to appropriately speak to a child based on their age and the extent of their abuse, possess a set of beliefs, but also have the ability to see more than one side of the case. Most importantly, you have to be a strong and determined advocate for vulnerable children and their rights as a child. I learned all of these skills from my time spent at the child advocacy center because I was challenged in every class, by each of my professors to do so. For that, I am forever grateful to Center for Child Advocacy.
