{"id":45,"date":"2017-11-28T15:08:35","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T15:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/?page_id=45"},"modified":"2025-05-23T09:31:02","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T13:31:02","slug":"loans","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/","title":{"rendered":"Loans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University offers a variety of loan program links below where you can find an in-depth explanation of each loan program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Loan requirements<\/li>\n<li>Application process<\/li>\n<li>Loan limits<\/li>\n<li>Interest rates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For loan application assistance visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\">Student Loans<\/a>\u00a0website.<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Types of Loans<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/stafford-loans\/\">Federal Stafford Direct Student Loans (Student)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Stafford Loan is obtained by filling out the FAFSA and is part of the federal <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/\">Federal Student Aid Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/federal-parent-loans-plus\/\">Federal Parent PLUS Loans\u00a0(Parent)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Financial Aid Office strongly recommends students borrow through the federal Stafford loan program first, before considering a Parent PLUS loan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Parent PLUS Loan is a loan that is available to the parent of a dependent student deemed by the FAFSA application.<\/li>\n<li>Review the Private Educational Loan option below in lieu of the Parent PLUS loan; you may qualify for a lower interest rate and $0 origination fee from a private lender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/graduate-federal-plus-loans\/\">Federal Graduate PLUS Loans\u00a0(Graduate Student)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Graduate students working on a master\u2019s degree and beyond may apply for this loan through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/\">Federal Student Aid Program<\/a>. The same terms and conditions apply to this loan that apply to the Parent PLUS loan.\u00a0<strong><em>(Students in a post-baccalaureate certificate program, e.g. teacher certification, do not qualify for this loan.)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/private-educational-loans\/\">Private Educational Loans\u00a0(Student and\/or Parent)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Financial Aid Office strongly recommends students borrow through the federal Stafford loan program first, before considering a private educational loan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Approval for these loans is credit based for the borrower, which can be the student, parent, both or a with a co-signer.<\/li>\n<li>You may consider a private educational loan in lieu of the Federal Parent PLUS loan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Information and Policies<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>The amount you are eligible to receive from the federal Stafford Direct loan program is listed on your financial aid notification on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/nest\/\">NEST<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>If you have successfully completed enough credits to move to the next grade level between the fall and spring terms, you may be eligible to receive additional loan funding for the spring term.\n<ul>\n<li>Based on your active acceptance of your loans offered on NEST, we will assume your acceptance of any grade level increase to each loan previously accepted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Grade levels for loan borrowing:\n<ul>\n<li>Freshman: 0 \u2013 29<\/li>\n<li>Sophomore: 30 \u2013 59<\/li>\n<li>Junior\/Senior: 60 or more<\/li>\n<li>Graduate: accepted into a Graduate degree\/certificate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Students who are graduating, withdrawing or are less than half-time must complete\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/exit-counseling\/\">Exit Counseling<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Financial aid recipients who enter into an agreement regarding a Title IV HEA loan (Stafford, PLUS, Grad PLUS, Perkins or TEACH) will be submitted to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and will be accessible by authorized agencies, lenders and institutions.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to revise or reinstate your student loan(s), please complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/forms\/#financial-aid\">Aid Adjustment Form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Loan Repayment Information<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Wondering about how you will repay your loans?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have questions about your repayment options?<\/li>\n<li>For more information about loan repayment, check out our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/red-hawk-central\/financial-aid\/loans\/student-loan-exit-counseling-and-repayment\/\">Loan Repayment<\/a>\u00a0information page for more details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Questions?
