Outstanding students in the PPW major were also inducted into the department Honor Society.<\/p>\n<p>First-Year Writing Exemplary Essay Awards went to <strong>Johnathan Smith<\/strong> for his WRIT105 essay &#8220;<em>The Busta Cake Mistake<\/em>&#8221; and to <strong>Kelly Naspo<\/strong> for her WRIT106 essay, &#8220;<em>The Not-So-Authentic Native American Experience<\/em>.&#8221; Honorable Mentions were given in WRIT105 to Malak Bayoumy for her essay &#8220;<em>Toxic Relationships in the Media: The Bad and the Ugly<\/em>&#8221; and <strong>Jessica Sconfienza<\/strong> for her essay, &#8220;<em>The War on Drag.<\/em>&#8221; WRIT106 Honorable Mention went to <strong>Annabelle Kempf<\/strong> for her essay &#8220;<em>Disenfranchised Grief: Exploring the Complexities of Hidden Sorrow.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Outstanding Multimodal Composition award was given to First-Year Writing student <strong>Adrianna Sewell<\/strong> for her original song: &#8220;<em>Natural Hair: The Beauty That We Need<\/em>&#8221; while an Honorable Mention was given to <strong>Maya Chavez Velasquez<\/strong> for her website, &#8220;<em>Mental Health Stigma in the Latino Community<\/em>&#8221; Instructor: Jessica Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>Awards were also given for outstanding work in the Professional and Public Writing major courses. The Excellence in Public Writing Awards went to <strong>Siddhi Sundaram<\/strong> for \u201c<em>Depression, has the Narrative Changed?<\/em>\u201d as well as <strong>Donaelle Benoit<\/strong> for her Grant Proposal, \u201c<em>Making Communities Brighter<\/em>&#8220;, while the Excellence in Professional Writing Awards went to <strong>Brielle Bogash<\/strong> and <strong>Sadie Bevando<\/strong> for their presentation for a Global Community, \u201c<em>Etiquette in Japan<\/em>&#8220;. The Excellence in Writing for Social Media award went to <strong>Gina-Marie Zoccoli<\/strong> for her campaign for Alchemy Scent Bar.
